Mechirat Chametz 2021

IMPORTANT MESSAGE FROM RABBI KAUFMAN -
MECHIRAS CHOMETZ & APPEAL FOR MAOS CHITIM

Dear OE Members and Friends,

I hope this message finds you and yours well.

In light of the ongoing situation, this year you will be able to choose one of two options to appoint me your agent to sell your chometz.

Option one :
In person, employing the time-honored enhancement of in-person Kabalas Kinyan. I will be available to meet you in Shul at the following times:
  • After the Sunday 6:30 am minyan;
  • Before and after the Sunday 8:00 am minyan, until 9:00 am;
  • 1/2 hour before mincha / maariv throughout the week;
  • or by appointment.

Option two:
As we did last year, you can appoint me remotely, using online technology that forgoes the time-honored enhancement of in-person Kabalas Kinyan.

You may use following link to access the online Mechiras Chametz Form. By submitting the form, you will be appointing me as your agent to sell your Chametz. This will fulfill all of the halachic requirements while providing the maximum degree of safety. Please remember to click on the SUBMIT button at the end of the form to complete the process.

Appeal for Maos Chitim
Our Sages teach that “one mitzvah to follow another.” Therefore, many immediately follow their sale of Chametz with the important mitzvah of Maot Chitim , to generously give tzedakah for the community’s needy.
In the past, your generous donation to our Maot Chitim Fund has provided desperately needed funds for families most in need, funds that made it possible for them to joyously celebrate Pesach – something they otherwise could not possibly afford.

We thank you for your past generosity and ask that, now more than ever, you please give even more generously than in years past. Regretfully, the current pandemic has led many local families to financial crisis. We implore you to please give with that in mind.

Please make your tax deductible contributions to Congregation Ohav Emeth with the memo marked, Maot Chitim-Charity Fund and mail to the shul 415 Raritan Avenue, Highland Park, New Jersey 08904

As always please feel free to call me or email me for any questions that you may have regarding this process and on all issues of Pesach observance.

Wishing you all good health and a Chag Kosher V'sameich with the hope that this Pesach herald for us better tomorrows filled with Hashem’s blessings of good health and happiness for all.

Sincerely,
Rabbi Eliyahu D Kaufman
