Rabbi's Message

Rosh Hashana 2002/5763

By Rabbi Eliyahu Kaufman

In the journey of life, the period of the Yamim Nora'im becomes a guiding light and spiritual compass that guides the direction we take in our lives.

It is a time of spiritual renewal and self discovery. It is a time that we pause to contemplate and critically analyze our lives, our past deeds, and the direction we take for the future. It is a time that we must ask ourselves those all important critical questions, who am I, what have I done, who have I become and where and who should I be.

It is a time that insures that our life and existence is not simply defined by the marking of time, that our life does not tragically consist of seemingly endless stream of days, of days that become weeks, of weeks that become months, of months that become years, that ultimately end in the cold empty question of where did it all go.

Time and our lives have purpose and meaning and we will not let our days pass by in blur of events, feelings and actions that become difficult for us to distinguish between who we are and what those events have made us become. Our lives are not as a driven leaf blown in the winds of time without knowing where they are or where they are going. Rather, our lives are directed and filled with the meaningful purpose of life's mission with the fulfillment of Torah, Mitzvot and Chesed. We no longer become controlled by time but rather, we become the controllers of our days, the masters of our fate, the captains of our destiny.

As we embark on this meaningful journey of the Yamim Nora'im may it allow us to renew ourselves and rediscover who we are and what we can be, to allow us to redirect our lives for the life that G-d wants us to have and the person who we need to become.

May this coming year bring with it the fulfillment of our true potential and with it a year filled with blessing, yeshuah and nechama for us and for all of Klal Yisrael, Eretz Yisrael and Medinat Yisrael for a Ktiva Va'Chatima Tova.
